Malaysia's Transportation & Storage sector grew 7.0% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). It is a useful signal that logistics-related activity remained resilient—but it is not a 7.0% forecast for every road-freight route.
What the Q2 figures say
Malaysia's economy grew 6.0% year-on-year in Q2 2026. Manufacturing grew 7.3%, while the wider Services sector grew 5.9%. Within Services, Transportation & Storage expanded 7.0%, moderating from 8.5% in Q1.
What it means for road-freight operators
For hauliers and forwarders in West Malaysia, particularly those serving manufacturing-linked corridors, the result is a useful demand indicator. It does not show whether a particular customer, return leg or lane is growing. Use it alongside live booking volumes, vehicle utilisation, customer enquiries and lane-level margins before adding capacity.
A practical planning check
Compare the national signal with your own last four to eight weeks of activity. If enquiries, accepted work and utilisation are all improving on a recurring corridor, you have a stronger basis to plan. If only the macro number is moving, keep the decision reversible.
