Selangor, Johor and Pulau Pinang lead Malaysia's investment pipeline as manufacturing expands
MIDA’s 1H 2026 approved investments point to a future manufacturing pipeline to monitor—not immediate freight volume—in key West Malaysian industrial states.

Malaysia approved RM218.5 billion of investments across 2,746 projects in the first half of 2026. For West Malaysian logistics operators, the useful signal is the manufacturing project pipeline—not an immediate count of freight orders.
Where the investment is concentrated
Selangor recorded RM70.0 billion in approved investments, followed by Johor at RM59.4 billion and Pulau Pinang at RM20.2 billion. Manufacturing accounted for RM51.3 billion across 973 projects, with activity in electrical and electronics, machinery and equipment, chemicals, transport equipment and food manufacturing.
What to monitor for freight planning
MIDA identified 302 approved manufacturing projects that plan to export at least 80% of output, up 57.3% year on year. It also reported that 65.5% of manufacturing projects approved in the first half had entered implementation. As projects progress through construction and production, demand may progressively emerge for machinery movements, inbound materials, warehousing, factory distribution and export haulage.
Investment approvals do not confirm logistics contracts, truck movements or cargo tonnage. Transporters, warehouse operators and forwarders should track implementation milestones before committing capacity.
