Maersk’s revised Malaysia–West Africa Peak Season Surcharge takes effect on 3 November 2026. Check the USD600 or USD800 equipment charge and booking terms before quoting.

What changes for Malaysia exports?
Maersk’s 20 October 2026 announcement revises Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Malaysia-to-West-Africa container shipments from 3 November 2026 until further notice. Exporters and forwarders should confirm its applicability before finalising quotations.
Which equipment and amounts are listed?
The Malaysia row lists USD600 for all 20-foot dry and reefer containers; USD800 for all 40-foot dry and reefer containers; and USD800 for 45-foot high-cube dry containers. These are additional surcharge amounts, not complete ocean freight rates.
Which booking and payment terms matter?
For non-SPOT bookings, the carrier uses Price Calculation Date (PCD). For non-FMC trades this refers to the scheduled departure of the first water leg at booking confirmation; for FMC trades, the last container gate-in date. For SPOT bookings, the notice uses booking confirmation date or first-vessel ETD at booking confirmation. The charge is collected at origin unless different payment terms are selected. Check the carrier’s full rules for your booking.
What should West Malaysian teams do?
West Malaysian exporters and forwarding teams with relevant bookings should verify equipment, applicable dates, SPOT/non-SPOT terms, payment arrangements and the complete quotation. Other applicable surcharges may remain. Confirm the carrier’s tariff and contract terms rather than adding this amount mechanically to an old quote.
What does this announcement not establish?
The notice does not establish the previous PSS level, so no increase or decrease amount is claimed here. It does not show a rate change across all carriers, a Pelabuhan Klang closure or a domestic road-haulage price change.
