Maersk has set a revised Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Malaysia-origin container shipments to Pipavav, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), Mundra and Pakistan from 31 August 2026. The charge is USD 1,000 for all 20-foot equipment and USD 1,500 for 40-foot and 45-foot high-cube dry equipment. Maersk says the PSS does not apply to SPOT bookings.
Which Malaysia shipments are covered?
Malaysia is explicitly included in Maersk’s Far East Asia origin scope. The revised PSS applies on the specified trade to Pipavav, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), Mundra and Pakistan. It is not a general increase across every Maersk shipment from Malaysia or every India destination.
What should exporters and forwarders check?
Before confirming a customer freight quotation, confirm the booking type, planned departure date and whether the applicable booking is non-SPOT. Maersk states that application follows its Price Calculation Date rules, so check the individual booking rather than assuming the charge applies.
Practical quoting impact
For a covered non-SPOT booking, factor USD 1,000 into a 20-foot container quote or USD 1,500 into a 40-foot or 45-foot high-cube dry container quote. Keep the surcharge separate from the base ocean freight and other local or destination charges so customers can see what has changed.
